Permalink notwithout-afight: I am impossibly happy tonight. So, many of you probably never heard of the band MEST, but they’re one of my favorites. Not only are they punk, but they’re punk with meaning. They broke up a few years ago, and now the lead singer, Tony Lovato, brought the band back and they’re touring with Escape the Fate and Attack!Attack! I don’t really like either of those bands, but they were not bad, from what I heard. Anyway, we went back to the merch station and bought stuff from them. Tony, seen in the picture above with me, was an absolute sweetheart. He graciously took pictures, signed multitudes of stuff and talked to us for a while. Now, I was extremely nervous and it took me most of the night to gain the courage to go up to him and thank him for making the music he did and how much it meant to me, but when I told him he told me I shouldn’t feel weird wanting to tell him. Its what he thrives on because he understands how music can move a person and that’s what he wants his music to do. He gave me three hugs during that conversation and it took all my willpower not to fangirl over him. Of all the musicians I’ve met, Tony has been, by far, the biggest influence on me. From listening to the music to watching the tour documentary, I feel in love with him and his flaws. I saw that a person, no matter how fucked up, can still be compassionate and kind to his fellow man. I saw strength and loyalty and even some betrayal that proved his humanity. But none of that mattered. When he played and when he spoke with his fans, his eyes were so bright and happy. And that proved how important MEST and music as a whole was so important to him and that he knew he’d be nowhere without his fans. And we asked him if he was headlining soon, but he smiled and said no. He said he liked opening because it meant he got to spend time at the merch table, talking to the people who gave him what he most loved in the world. I would have been so happy to have just seen him on stage and been able to experience the craziness of the crowd, but meeting him, talking to him, and getting a deeper understanding of him made my life. There’s not many people that I can truly say would make me as happy as I am this night. And I want to say thank you to him one more time because of how amazing he was to me and my friends. I know I’ll never stop being a fan of MEST after tonight. THIS is exactly the sort of stories I want to hear! It sounds like you had a great time and truly got to experience a magical moment with Tony! Awesome!

Today was one of the best nights of my life. Tony Lovato is seriously the most amazing down to earth musician I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I’m so thankful to have been able to meet him again, and most importantly, see him doing what he does best, play live music again. I have no idea how I managed to not start bawling when I saw him walk on that stage again. I absolutely adore him, and think he gets sweeter every time, if that’s even possible.
